Josh Hartnett’s Netflix Horror Miniseries is a global streaming hit.

There may be a new contender for best Netflix miniseries, and it stars Josh Hartnett. His horror miniseries “Below,” which tells the story of a Newfoundland fisherman who must protect his loved ones from dangerous sea creatures, just debuted to huge ratings. According to Deadline, “Below” received 17 million views from its release on October 8 to Sunday, October 11. This is a record Canadian Netflix debut. It also outperformed all other English-language TV programs that week.

With just six episodes, “Below” is one of those Netflix miniseries you can binge in a day. What is a hooked audience for? It’s likely Hartnett’s accomplishment. He plays Calvin Penny, a fisherman tasked with preventing mysterious sea creatures from destroying his community while suffering from the death of his father decades ago.

Hartnett worked hard to bring authenticity to the character, getting to know Newfoundland actors and fishermen, immersing himself in local cuisine, and enlisting the help of a dialect coach to develop his accent. Of course, Hartnett was just one of the talented faces. He joins Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn and Rohan Campbell.

Will there be a second season of Below?

Limited series are usually designed to be standalone, but their shelf life may sometimes be extended by a few episodes (or seasons) due to enthusiastic fan response. Some of the most popular miniseries to receive this treatment include “The Flight Attendant,” “Good Omens,” “The White Lotus” and “13 Reasons Why.” Fans of ‘Below’ are wondering if he will join the ranks.

Unfortunately, Josh Hartnett doesn’t seem so convinced. “This story works very well on its own,” he told Men’s Health. “I don’t think I have any plans, I know. [creator Jesse McKeown] I moved on to other things. All the actors moved on to other things. I’ve moved on to other things.” Still, he can’t completely discount the possibility, knowing the power of views within the TV landscape. “When it’s a big hit, there’s always room to imagine the future,” he said. “And I’d love to play Calvin again, without a doubt. The door is not closed for me, but it is a limited series.”

Welp – there it is!
