Cruise will be the latest recipient of this honor, according to The Hollywood Reporter and other outlets. A gala celebration in his honor will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2027, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Kathleen KennedyChar, of the AFI Board of Directors, said in a statement accompanying the announcement:
“Tom Cruise is a global icon. As an actor and producer, he brings extraordinary dedication to everything he does. What I especially admire is his deep belief in film and his ability to bring people together. That passion has made him an outstanding ambassador for American cinema around the world. It is AFI’s honor to present him with the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award.”
