If the Season 2 trailer for “Bad Monkey” is any indication, Andrew Yancy’s smart aleck routine may not save him this time.
Apple TV has released the trailer for Year 2 of Vince Vaughn’s detective comedy (premiering on streaming Wednesday, December 2). In it, Yancy stumbles upon a new case and confronts powerful crime boss Spencer Donovan, played by John Malkovich. As Spencer’s henchmen hold Yancy at gunpoint on the hotel rooftop, a rattled Yancey asks, “Can I call 911 quickly?” (But he assures me, “It’s not about you.”)
Elsewhere in the trailer (which you can see above), Yancy is reunited with his love interest from last season, Rosa. But this time she might not be so smitten. “I understand why people are shooting at you.” she tells him. In reality, Yancy must avoid whizzing bullets, crashing cars, and exploding buildings to solve the case. And setting it all to Guns N’ Roses’ classic “Paradise City” is a nice touch. Right?
Bad Monkey returns to Apple TV after two years.
According to the official description, Season 2 of “Bad Monkey” follows “After Andrew Yancey witnesses the murder of Florida’s greatest fixer, an ambitious state’s attorney teams him with a meticulous forensic accountant to solve the crime.” “As Yancy navigates Florida’s various oddities, including a knowledgeable mob boss, his distraught son, and a stubborn young woman in need of Yancy’s protection, she becomes embroiled in a turf war between rival crime syndicates. Meanwhile, Yancy bickers with her elderly father and maintains unresolved romantic tensions with Dr. Rosa Campensino, who begins her own investigation into a mysterious rash, and a radical animal relocation expert whose business threatens the community and environment.”
Vince Vaughn returns as Yancy, while Natalie Martinez (Rosa), Charlotte Lawrence (Caitlin), and John Ortiz (Rogelio) also return in Season 1 (which concludes on Apple TV in October 2024). New cast members include John Malkovich (as Spencer), Yvonne Strahovski (as Delaney), and Zavior Phillips (as Eddie), while guest stars include Dax Shepard, Sam Jaeger, and June Diane Raphael.
