Former Warners chief David Zaslav tried to get a tax break, but it looks like “Coyote vs. Acme” is having the last laugh.
Gold Derby reports that the film, distributed by Ketchup Entertainment, has officially been nominated for the 2027 Oscars in the Best Animated Feature category.
For a film to be eligible under Academy rules, animation must fill at least 75% of its runtime, but with the added bonus of “pending further review.” The Academy ruled and the film qualified.
If it gets nominated, and I can guarantee there will be momentum for it, it would make it only the second live-action/animated hybrid nominated in this category, following “Marcel in the Shell,” and the first Looney Tunes film to be nominated.
Acquired by Ketchup for $50 million worldwide, the film grossed over $125 million at the box office and received very positive reviews.
If successful, the film will likely rival LAIKA’s ‘Wildwood’ and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5.’
