FIFDH’s Film Call: Sports as a Catalyst of Change

The International Forum for Film Festivals and Human Rights (FIFDH) and the Olympic Refugee Foundation (ORF) have joined forces for a new initiative for 2027 and launched a call for documentary films focusing on the role of sport in humanitarian crises. The submission deadline is November 25, 2026.

In a series of events in 2027, the two organizations are collaborating to bring powerful stories and conversations about sport and human rights to audiences in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland.

“In particular, we are looking for stories that demonstrate the role of sport in the lives of individuals or communities affected by humanitarian crises and/or displacement due to conflict or climate change,” organizers wrote.

“Sport does not have to be the main theme of the film, but it must play a meaningful role in the story as a force of change for the people or communities depicted. Films about humanitarian crises in which sport does not play a meaningful role, or sports films that have no connection to the humanitarian crisis, will not be considered,” organizers add.

Entries are open to completed documentary films of at least 52 minutes from around the world produced after 2024.
