Another week has passed and more information about the Oscar race has been hinted at in what has been shown in certain ways (for audiences, media, and even industry voters alike), so it’s no exaggeration to say that Oscar season is in full swing. There’s still very much in a wait-and-see mode as to how certain films will ultimately play out with people, but for now it’s in full swing.
For this piece I would like to divide it into two sections. First up are the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards, then the Montclair screening, and then a bonus for a little documentary that some people are clearly raving about (which is, of course, justified and close to undeniable status). It actually deserves its own discussion.
Best supporting actor
This is probably the widest acting competition. There is no clear frontrunner, or at least no one agreed upon after viewing each film. The initial consensus is that there are only two actual “locks”, although some may dispute this. they are
- Guitarica della Puente, black ball
- Paul Giamatti, debut
The last three slots really depend on which films are strong and which ones in the conversation are ultimately forgotten, underrated, or don’t really fit the moment. This list includes:
- Sam Rockwell, wild horse nine
- John Leguizamo, Odyssey
- andrew Garfield, artificial
- Steve Buscemi, wild horse nine
- edward Norton, invite
This is probably the top five that has most people debating who will ultimately round out the category. The personal prediction or prospect I’m eyeing (which matches my makeup and hairstyling win prediction) would be Eggers’ Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Willem Dafoe. warwolfIt is scheduled to be released in December and is expected to be very popular. Whether this will ultimately pay off remains to be seen.
Here’s what our community of awards experts think about this category:
Best supporting actor
Compared to the previously discussed races, this one is a bit simpler. There appears to be at least a consensus on the two nominated actresses. But the question is which role one of the actresses discussed will play, or whether she will be nominated twice in the same category for the first time ever.
- anne Hathaway, Odyssey
- penelope Cruz, invite or black ball
The fact of the matter is that Cruz is more likely to join Wilde’s film and her work in the epic film Los Javis. Both performances demonstrate powerful range and versatility as an actor. The rest of the category is wide open, and there’s a very specific “fixed” that people keep mentioning as a possible option, but it’s not populated to avoid spoilers. These include:
- samantha Morton, Odyssey
- Olivia Colman, Elsinore
- Mariana di Girolamo, wild horse nine
- Tao Okamoto, suddenly
- Sandra Hueler, Project Hail Merry
This is a category that many others are competing in, but that is certainly the case at the moment.
For discussion purposes, the lineup of Award Experts is as follows:
Some interesting stories about Montclair
4 movies I’ve seen so far in 15Day The annual Montclair Film Festival is Siân Heder’s film festival. Become humanBrad Bird’s ray gunPeter Farrelly i play rockyand James Gray paper tigerAll movies that are successful to some degree. Become human and i play rocky It’s a crowd-pleaser in its own way that will really appeal to the average Academy voter. ray gun represents an attempt to revive the glory days of ambitious animation (like the early 2000s) that didn’t quite work, and Gray’s film is another sign of promise for the director. His personal works all speak volumes about him and his strengths in the medium. The most obvious players in this lineup are: i play rockyIt’s a real winner and a love letter to Hollywood. Don’t underestimate this movie.
You can see the true potential of everything
Nathan Fielder and Oppenheim’s masterpiece documentary has proven to be an undeniable sensation even now. Financially, critically, and artistically, this is truly too big to ignore. If you have the support of the right critics, the support of the industry, and a passionate push, you can go beyond the category of documentary and enter the competition for Best Picture.
Logically, I would wait a few weeks before slotting it in, but given the current fundamentals, it ultimately seems too big to ignore at this point. Photography, direction, editing, and even performer names (ofc redacted) are on the table, and unfortunately, it falls into the top two categories at Mungiu’s expense. fjordAs provocative and artistically lovely as this film may seem, it may not be as impactful. Watch both movies if you can.
