England chose Pegah Ahangarani. rehearsal for revolutionis the 2027 Oscar’s entry in the Best International Feature Film category and won the L’Oeil d’Or award for Best Documentary at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film traces more than 40 years of Iranian history through Ahangharani’s personal experience of exile and the stories of her relatives and mentors. Using personal archives, home videos, footage of street protests, newspapers, and recorded voices, the filmmakers piece together a portrait of a nation shaped by political oppression and hopes for lasting revolution.
Ahangarani, 42, spent more than two and a half years in the UK writing, researching and editing the film, working with a team of British collaborators. The film had its world premiere in the Cannes Special Screening section earlier this year and was then screened at the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

Sony Pictures Classics will host screenings of the Oscar-winning film in New York and Los Angeles in December, followed by an exclusive release at the Los Angeles landmark’s Nuart Theater and New York Film Forum on January 8, 2027.
