“Serial” host Sarah Koenig returns to the podcast scene with “Metro with Sarah Koenig,” a new biweekly podcast produced in partnership with the New York Times’ Metro desk.
“Metro,” a narrative podcast, is committed to bringing the stories of New York City and New Yorkers themselves to every listener. The first two episodes premiered on Thursdays, and subsequent episodes will be released every other Thursday on all major podcast platforms.
Drawing on her experience hosting and co-producing “Serial,” Koenig’s new show hopes to combine her expertise as one of the most acclaimed hosts in podcasting with the power and insight of the Times Metro desk.
“This show was so easy to produce because – who knew? – New Yorkers are the best talkers and storytellers,” Koenig said in a statement. “After over a decade of working on investigative, multi-episode series, I can’t tell you how happy I am to just get out there and find great stories. I’m having an unseemly time.”
“Metro” is executive produced by fellow “Serial” co-creator Julie Snyder, editor-in-chief of Serial Productions.
Opening with everyday New Yorkers, “Metro” promises to offer a mix of investigative and personal stories, as well as essays and interviews to capture the vast scope of New York City and the incredible breadth of humanity it has to offer. The episode will highlight stories reported by Koenig, reporters on the NYT Metro desk, and the Serial Productions team.
Koenig worked as a print journalist for 10 years before joining the “This American Life” team in 2004. Koenig has since received several journalism awards and awards for her work with “Serial” and “This American Life.”
The release of ‘Metro’ comes six years after Serial Productions became part of The New York Times Company. In the years since, the two parties have produced numerous other podcasts and shows, including “Nice White Parents,” “The Improvement Association,” “The Trojan Horse Affair,” “We Were Three,” “The Coldest Case in Laramie,” “The Retrievals,” “The Kids of Rutherford County,” “The Good Whale,” “The Preventionist” and “The Idiot.”
‘Serial’ lasted for 4 seasons after its debut in October 2014.
