I can’t believe it Clayface It actually came out. For years I’ve been talking and writing about Clayface being the Batman villain I’d most like to see on the big screen. At first it was just wishful thinking. If so, the rumor about that character is Batman: Part II Or maybe your movie turns out to be true. Finally, this was what the movie trailer promised when it actually got made. Now the movie has been released in theaters. I saw it last week, um… are you okay.
First, let me revisit Sunday Scaries, where I told you four years ago how much I wanted to see this movie. I wrote about my enjoyment of the character here, including:
My favorite Batman villain is Clayface. This rogue gallery member, whose alter ego is Basil Karlo, or more often Matt Hagen, has always captivated me. especially, Batman: The Animated SeriesThe combination of Karlo elements and Hagen characters caught my attention. I’ve wanted to see Clayface in a live-action project for a long time, and it certainly seems like there’s a chance that could happen now.
Recently, a horror film producer came out. Mike Flanagan pitched DC Clayface movie. The same report also speculates that the character could be part of the next plan. mat reeves‘ Batman: Part 2. Both prospects are very interesting. Both could happen, which makes this one of the most interesting and potential DC projects.
Then once Clayface There was a trailer and it expressed some optimism about it.
The official trailer was released a few days ago. Clayface Released. The initial teaser trailer had high hopes, but this full look gave me hope that DC and Warner Bros. would actually make the movie. Clayface Horror movie. With a screenplay Mike Flanagan (and Hossein Amini), we hope to see high-quality writing on display that would not have been under this title a generation ago. So between its pedigree, the looks of the trailer, and my hopes for the character, it seems like body horror is going to be the name of the game here, and that’s going to be interesting.
From the looks of the trailer, it shows us the Clayface we’ve been wanting to see. Of course, there will be a lot of Matt Hagen, but it looks like there are at least some giant monsters here, which is the joy of the character’s completeness. It will also most likely have some actual gore and probably give the body horror vibe more than just lip service. There’s still a lot to see here, but I like what I’ve seen so far.

If we go back a few days, my review was posted as follows:
I’ve wanted to see the character Clayface on the big screen since the Batman villain first appeared in 1992. Batman: The Animated Series. idea Clayface Movies have always seemed very difficult to succeed and do the right thing, but hope remained. Then when Mike Flanagan He was giving his opinion about a character when things got interesting. Now we actually Clayface It’s a movie based on a script by Flanagan…and it’s okay. It’s not disappointing, but it feels like we’re only getting a fraction of what we could have. The end result is a film that gets more right than wrong, but one that definitely leaves meat on the bone.
Clayface There are some bold elements, especially considering it’s a studio film, but overall it’s pretty safe. It’s a strange mix, considering we’re working with a fair amount of gore, a hard R rating, and the body horror genre. There is always a sense of two steps forward, one step back, of being able to appreciate the quality while still recognizing the shortcomings. There’s plenty to recommend here, but it’s clear expectations were somewhat restrained.

more Clayface Better things will happen if you give in to your body fear. The more you get into the plot, the more it feels like a better version of the free Sony movies like Spider-Man: Kraven the Hunter and Morbius. The absence of Batman here is noticeable when dealing with the Gotham City mafia and the like. Hollywood story elements? It works by itself and Clayface I should have focused more. I’ll say it again: I don’t like the movie at all. It’s okay when you have hopes for more.
I’m glad we got it in the end. Clayface Even if it’s good (at best) and not as good as it could have been. Maybe things will improve when the sequel comes out, right? Perhaps this character will appear again in another DC project? Even if it doesn’t, I’ll take it as a victory because to some extent what I initially hoped for has come true. If nothing else, you can now give up hope on this particular one and find another project to champion in a Sunday Scaries repeat post. Just sit back and find out what it is…
Stay tuned for another Sunday Scaries article next week!
