The Hail Mary Project officially returns in fall 2026.

Project Hail Merry It was an absolute revelation, both as a book and as a big-budget sci-fi film starring the always ridiculously charming Ryan Gosling. The story of Ryland Grace’s unwanted journey to the stars is oddly relatable considering its subject matter, and Rocky easily secures the crown as the cutest rock on any media property to date.

So the film has been a huge commercial success and is likely to do well during awards season, with most expecting it to pick up a few nods when the Academy Awards are announced. With all this going on, it would have been easy to miss the fact that there was a third way to enjoy the burgeoning franchise. This method is much more interactive than either of the other two options.

You can find the following list of games on the official Meta website: Project Hail Mary: A Journey Among the Stars. Players will step into Grace’s shoes during a never-before-seen critical mission and must work together with Rocky to move forward and survive.

The narrative, currently available for pre-order, is a brand new original story created by Andy Weir (author of the original), and if that doesn’t give you enough cred, I don’t know what will. Giving fans a little insight into what they can expect from the game, the developer shared the following description:

“Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is a mixed reality adventure set in the cinematic universe based on Andy Weir’s best-selling science fiction novel, where players join Ryland Grace and Rocky in the pivotal chapter of an unknown mission. Working together in the face of disaster, they must keep Hail Mary intact and bring the world-saving cargo to Eridani, Rocky’s home planet and Grace’s new home.

• Continue your mission with Rocky and experience humanity’s last hope for yourself.

• Manage your ship and its precious cargo as you travel the stars

• Diagnose failing systems and devise scientific solutions on the fly.

“The Hail Mary is en route from Tau Ceti to 40 Eridani A. Ryland Grace and his friend and crew member Rocky must work together in the face of disaster to keep the ship intact and bring the world-saving cargo to Grace’s new home, Eridani.”

Developed by Maze Theory, the game is expected to be released before the end of the year, and if you pre-order you’ll also get the limited edition Gold Xenonite collection. This amounts to three mixed reality statues of the Rocky, Grace and Hail Mary ships, and can be displayed however you like.

Other than that, we’ll just have to wait and see how many awards it will receive. Project Hail Merry I will receive it in the first half of next year. Considering how huge this first effort has become, don’t be surprised if you start hearing murmurs of a sequel or spinoff at some point.
