Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix’s Oscar-winning ‘K-Pop Demon Hunter’ has reigned as a global powerhouse for over a year since its release in June 2025. The core of this phenomenon is music. Songs by girl group Huntrix and boy group Saja Boys are dominating the charts.
Neckwav provided the singing voice of Abby Saja in the film, performing the hits “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol.” Ahead of his New York Comic Con 2026 on-stage panel discussion with Emmy-nominated producer and actor Rich Ting (“Tulsa King,” “Staycation”), Neckwav shared with me how he felt about working on the film, including his friendships with Academy Award-winning directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.
“I met her through a movie. I met Maggie in Korea a little earlier than Chris. They are amazing people. I will always be grateful to them for literally changing my life. And I may come back when there is a sequel. Nothing is confirmed yet. The fact that they were able to bring Korean culture… [It’s] It’s so cool that everyone, even beyond Korea, wants to know about it and everyone wants to participate. “It’s an amazing experience I’ve had.”

A “KPop Demon Hunters” sequel is in the works and could have a global release in theaters in 2029. As part of a roundtable press interview session, Neckwav discussed how he recorded his vocals in South Korea one night at 10pm about a year before the film was released. He didn’t know his voice was for the character Abby and “had no idea about the plot.”
Neckwav’s first time going to NYCC. He said how happy he was to be there. “I’m still amazed at the size of the convention… there were so many people.” He also admitted that the fandom “still can’t believe it. It still feels unrealistic at this point.”
Neckwav is represented by Ting through his own production label, as is Jinu vocalist Andrew Choi, who was originally scheduled to attend but was unable to attend. Ting told the press roundtable how proud she was of the film’s impact. As for what’s next for Neckwav and Choi, Ting said, “My goals are to: [them] Promote yourself as an individual beyond an animated character. They’ve been in the game for years.”
