New poster and artwork for ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ released ahead of trailer release

Netflix has released Greta Gerwig’s first poster. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Social media has set up the first trailer, which is expected to be released tomorrow, October 13th at 2pm ET (7pm ET).

It’s been a busy few weeks for Narnia fans. This is the first major marketing material directly from Netflix since Empire premiered exclusively worldwide last month.

What’s on the new poster?

The poster depicts a giant silhouette of Aslan in profile, his mane reaching towards the stars. His shadow fills almost the entire frame, and the universe itself appears to be sitting there. inside The Great Lion is a clever nod to the central moment in the story when Aslan creates Narnia through song.

In the center of the work, two small horsemen soar through brilliant prismatic light on winged horses. Readers of the book will immediately note this as Digory and Polly aboard Fledge (formerly Strawberry, a London taxi horse), taking their children on a journey west in the novel.

Above it is a simple tagline: “The universe begins.” The poster below shows the same “A Film by Greta Gerwig” billing and Narnia wordmark as the official logo reveal, along with the “Only in Theaters February 12” and “Experience it in IMAX” credits, reminding us that Netflix is treating this as a full-fledged theatrical event.

Along with the poster, Netflix also uploaded new widescreen artwork to the film’s official title page. A horizontal shot of the same image, with Aslan’s silhouette pushed to the right of the frame and the left open to a swirling marble nebula in blue, lilac and cream, looking like paint being poured into water. This is a far cry from the realistic, earthy look of the Walden Media/Disney trilogy, and fits right into Gerwig’s cosmic “creation of the world” angle.

Courtesy of Empire’s busy few weeks.

The poster follows a few days of exclusives in September that gave us our first real look at the film (we’ve covered the biggest hints and news here). Empire’s exclusive world premiere also officially confirmed one of the most hotly discussed casting rumors in recent Netflix history. Meryl Streep will actually be voicing Aslan. As we reported at the time, Aslan’s new look takes heavy inspiration from none other than David Bowie, and this iteration of Aslan features heterochromia and distinctive red facial stripes as a direct homage to the singer.

Empire also created an exclusive subscriber cover from concept artist Jaime Jones that shows Aslan creating Narnia itself. The next day saw the first public images of the film’s two central villains, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew Ketterly and Emma Mackey as the wizard Jadis. Craig’s disheveled magician is surrounded by glowing beakers and light-bending devices in a cluttered study, while Mackie’s Jadis wears a glam rock-inspired outfit made from shimmering armor-like fabric.

There was even more in the full issue of the magazine. Gerwig portrayed her story as a rock opera, with a nod to David Bowie and The Who, and the film moves The Magician’s Nephew’s timeline to the 1950s rather than the book’s 1900 setting. Gerwig also memorably described Uncle Andrew, calling him “the dumbest magician in the world who actually created magic.” And what’s funny is that Streep recorded a brief vocal cameo in Project Hail Mary between sessions for her role as Aslan.

When will Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew be released?

Long story short, the film has been pushed back from 2026, subject to a proper theatrical release. It opens in theaters on February 12, 2027, begins IMAX previews on February 10, and streams on Netflix on April 2, 2027. That means a seven-week (49-day) exclusive theatrical window, the longest in Netflix history, at least for an English-language film of this scale. Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the film outside of North America.

We’ll provide you with a trailer along with a full breakdown as soon as it arrives. In the meantime, catch up on everything we know about Narnia on Netflix.
