Sony Japan has reportedly discontinued its last UHD Blu-ray player, the UBP-X700/K, which was released in May 2025.
Japanese blog Kunkoku broke the news that sales in Japan have officially ended today (October 22), with shipping halted. The blog is also a Sony retail store.
They added, “Following the announcement that Blu-ray recorder sales will end and PlayStation game disc production will cease, PS5 will be Sony’s only UHD Blu-ray player in Japan.”
Sony Japan’s online store listing says “Out of stock. This product will not be restocked.” There has been no press release or global confirmation and no successor or replacement has been announced.
So the PS5 remains the only remaining UHD Blu-ray player, but it is a gaming console and does not support the Dolby Vision HDR standard.
PlayStation previously announced that it would stop releasing new games on optical discs in early 2028. Sony already withdrew from the Blu-ray recorder market in February.
The UBP-X700/K is not yet officially marked as discontinued in the US, Europe, or other regions, so it appears to still be in stock in those markets.
Sony’s exit from the market leaves Panasonic as the only major electronics brand still selling UHD Blu-ray players.
