Exorcist: Martyr

Academy Award® nominee Scarlett Johansson fronts The Exorcist: Martyrs, one of the most storied titles in film history. It comes from Mike Flanagan, genre director and creator of the acclaimed series The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass, the new Carrie and the films Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck and Hushand Gerald’s Game.

Thirteen years ago, New York City detective Julie Miller (Johansson) ended the reign of terror of Satanic serial killer Father Sunday. This incident made her a hero, and she has been devoting herself to her work ever since. Now a new killer scrawls her name on the church basement wall in altar boy blood, then drags her back into the darkness where he believed she had been buried with him.

With the help of Father William (Academy Award® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor), a former prison chaplain who heard Father Sunday’s final confession, and sharp new detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle, The Rip), Detective Miller discovers clues that link a lineage of serial killers from HH Holmes to the Zodiac.

The top cast includes Academy Award® nominee Diane Lane as Mary, Detective Miller’s mother who moves in with her to help raise her grandson Max (Jacobi Jupe, Hamnet). Best Actor winner Scoot McNairy (Argo) plays paroled convict Clay Silver. Emmy winner Gil Bellows (Carrie) plays Peter Nicks, a former Father Sunday acolyte. Emmy and Tony Award-winning screen legend Laurence Fishburne plays revered priest Father Nicole. The acclaimed star of The Odyssey, Emmy and Special Tony Award winner John Leguizamo, takes on the most menacing role of his career as Father Sunday.

The Exorcist: Martyrs is written and directed by Mike Flanagan, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty. The film was produced by David Robinson (The Exorcist, Dead Ringers), three-time Academy Award® nominee Jason Blum (Get Out, Black Phone) and Mike Flanagan. The film was executive produced by Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek.
